Cook Out Restaurant

The Cook Out is an interesting beast because no one can seem to figure out where they’re based. I’ve heard reports that they are out of Greensboro (NC), but they don’t seem to have a web site at this writing, and it just doesn’t seem to be anything that anyone can verify.

Nonetheless, the company is doing something right. Their down-home style, the original hamburgers “cooked outdoors style”, the 36 “creamery” premium milkshakes and the retro styling of the building has kept the double drive-thru near our house hopping since they opened nearly six months ago.

My only complaint is that the milkshakes are more like a soft-serve sundae. Nothing wrong with that, mind you, it just makes it hard to drink through the straw. The flavor is stll quite good, you understand. It’s just better eaten with a spoon.

As to the food, it’s good. I’m not a huge fan of burgers, so it’s tough to judge, but I’ve been happy enough with what I’ve had to eat, and the family seems to be okay with what they have had as well. Not earth-shattering, but not bad either. Probably worth checking out the next time you’re driving by one.

Update – thanks to Elizabeth, below, we now have an online version of Cook Out’s menu.

I LOVE COOKOUT!! The freshest fast food out there! I would love to know the calories in the cajun grilled chicken sandwich!?! It is the best ever. What ever happened to the “fresh burger” with the really thin patty? I loved it when I wanted a REALLY great hamburger flavor and not very much meat. It was like eating salad with a little bit of great hamburger on it! You guys really are SPECIAL!
P.S. The Raleigh South Sanders (Hwy 70 toward Garner) store is always consistant in having great food!!

I have heard that there was a Cookout or two in Daytona that closed. Does anyone know when they closed, and where in Daytona they were located? Any plans to open another Cookout in Florida (as that is where the headquarters are)?

Well everyone I work at Cook Out and have some answers for you. I actually found this site looking to see if Cook Out had one but I also can’t find a site for them. The first Cook Out was actually in Texas but it didn’t work there so they came to North Carolina. The first one here was in Greensboro and from then expanded to the 68 stores and still growing. Headquarters are in Daytona Beach FL. For the person a few entries above that had the bad experience, I’m sorry you did because Cook Out is the best fast food and I encourage you to try it again because that was a horrible representation of Cook Out. I like my job and make customer service a big part of it not only because its not hard to do but its who I am as a person. So please give us another chance.

of all the cook outs ive been to (and ive been to all the ones in winston salem) the best one is the peters creek location always fast with the order and its never wrong! and like someone else said he doesnt advertise because its not needed the food sells its self. there is no other restaurant that compares to it. and also kernersville has opened a cook out a year ago that has inside seating which is great especially with the smell of hamburgers wafting throughout.

I decided to try Cook Out on S Tryon in charlotte NC for the first time today. It will also be the last time. I waited 10 minutes in the second lane of the drive thru before I could place my order. When the car in front of me got his order and started to drive off the young lady yelled at him through the window he has the wrong order. (It later turned out to be my order) He indicated to her to send the right one as he was not at the window any longer. She and a man working there waved him to come inside. It took another 5 minutes before they decided to take his order to him. When she eventually attended to me she gave me the wrong order as well. I told her it was wrong and told her I’m not interested in the order they got back from the previous guy. She snarled at me they will give me a fresh order. I had to wait another 5 minutes for this. This happened on Dec 30, 2009 and the time on my receipt is 3.05pm. I can’t find a site for Cook Out to get a contact number or e-mail.

When will a Cookout come to South Carolina? Seems like every town on I-85 from Gastonia to the Virginia line has a cookout. How about expanding on down I-85 to South Carolina next. Gaffney, SC would be a good place to start. Locate at exit 92 which is the main Gaffney exit.

I live in Eastern North Carolina, and frequient the stores in the greenville area.(The one on Memorial Drive is way better than the one on 10th st. though.) Their food is the best, gourmet hamburgers at fast food prices, that is a potential recipe for many happy customers. Also if you do ever have something go wrong with your order, they want to know. They can’t fix problems if they don’t know a problem exsists. That mainly goes out to all the people who had one not so great experience and give Cookout a bum “wrap”. Anyway I love to eat at Cookout and will continue for many years. Chicken cajun chedder style, cajun fries, corn dog, HUGE COKE!!!!
