Cook Out Restaurant

The Cook Out is an interesting beast because no one can seem to figure out where they’re based. I’ve heard reports that they are out of Greensboro (NC), but they don’t seem to have a web site at this writing, and it just doesn’t seem to be anything that anyone can verify.

Nonetheless, the company is doing something right. Their down-home style, the original hamburgers “cooked outdoors style”, the 36 “creamery” premium milkshakes and the retro styling of the building has kept the double drive-thru near our house hopping since they opened nearly six months ago.

My only complaint is that the milkshakes are more like a soft-serve sundae. Nothing wrong with that, mind you, it just makes it hard to drink through the straw. The flavor is stll quite good, you understand. It’s just better eaten with a spoon.

As to the food, it’s good. I’m not a huge fan of burgers, so it’s tough to judge, but I’ve been happy enough with what I’ve had to eat, and the family seems to be okay with what they have had as well. Not earth-shattering, but not bad either. Probably worth checking out the next time you’re driving by one.

Update – thanks to Elizabeth, below, we now have an online version of Cook Out’s menu.

    Yeah, the store in Wilmington is pretty amazing and is doing VERY well.
    The best market however is the Raleigh market.(It has always been that way)

    To correct John however; Cook Out does have take-out menu’s, they are however, not made by the company but by the GM/Managers at their discretion(This is why many do not offer them).

    If said store does not offer menu’s it can be found online at http://www.cookoutnc.com/

    Also, for anyone living in South Carolina, we’ve just opened a store in Charlotte on South Tryon. I actually just moved to Rockhill SC this month, it takes me twenty minutes to get to work from 77>Carowinds Blvd.(Ext. 90 on I-77)>South Tryon.

    The cook out in Eden has served the most tasteless burgers ever,today makes three times in a row,they were hard, black and tasteless. Hotdogs were under cooked. very disapointed.

    So i’ve definitely worked at cookout forever now;
    and cookout is a family owned business that did start in Greensboro;
    and the main headquarters is actually in Florida because that’s where the owner lives.
    oh, and we actually do have printed menu’s but we’re not suppose to give them out, but when we have extras we do anyways.

    (:

    I moved from out of state to Jacksonville NC recently; my friends in Raleigh and Greensboro rave about Cook Out and it doesn’t seem that we have one here; though it has been difficult to find any place that actually lists locations. Too bad the company doesn’t have a website. Anyway Jacksonville is the home of Camp Lejeune, the largest Marine contingent in the world. They would do a HUGE business in this town. I would love to see one here and hope someone out there with some connections to management will see this and consider opening one here.

    Cookout needs a store in South Carolina, all the stores are in North Carolina they should icleast put one in South Carolina. We drive all the way to Charlotte just to eat there. The Hamburgers and Bbq are the best by far and you cant find a better deal than the Cookout Tray. I only wish they had a store closer.

    PLEASE consider opening a Cook Out in Asheville. A location near our university would do very well. Milkshakes are awesome!!
