While moving a customer’s Exchange installation, one of the users told me that she manages another user’s mailbox. This means that she needs to open their mailbox from time to time. In actuality, we typically open them through the ‘Advanced’ tab of the Exchange settings.
But I went to check it out through the Other User’s Folder option on the ‘File’ menu – only to find that it was grayed out! How in the world did that happen – and more importantly, what to do about it?
Strange indeed, as we were using Exchange as our back-end. In fact, Exchange was installed only a few feet from her desk (though the cable connecting the two makes the connection a considerably further distance).
The problem? Somehow she had apparently managed to turn on the Work Offline option. Click ‘File’ to verify, and if checked, click again to clear. That should fix you right up.
