Parents Outside, Kids Inside?

I recently read a story that makes absolutely no sense to me. Apparently the parents are staying outside while their (misbehaving) kids get the house. I think they have this backwards. I completetly understand the frustration, and even support their decision to not do the work themselves if it comes to it. But why not put the kids outside and let them deal with that for a while, instead of inconveniencing themselves?

True enough – but I think that assumes that the kids would care that nothing got done. I doubt that most would. They might figure out how to do a little laundry, or even microwave a meal now and again, but in the meantime, the parents have one uncomfortable night’s sleep after another!

Just doesn’t make sense to me, as the parents could still not cook or clean or do laundry for the kids, plus give them an uncomfortable night’s sleep, plus get a good night’s sleep themselves. Sounds like a much better plan to me!

I think the point of the story is that the parents want the kids to notice that noone is doing their laundry anymore. Or the cooking. Or the cleaning. Maybe now the kids will pick up the idea that they have to start helping out a little more.

If the kids were sent outside they would never see what happens when all those chores don’t get done. They would just have an uncomfortable night’s sleep.
