“We believe in communication. We’re doing this because we think LiveJournal has something that’s really strong with the community. We feel that that’s one of things we are lacking.”
Mena Trott, in an interview about The Deal. I doubt anyone would argue that point with her. To be fair, I’m not sure that anyone wants to argue much of anything with Mena. But on this point, I think she pretty well nailed it.

Well, depending on who you ask, it took a while indeed, with LiveJournal being around for 6-ish years and Six Apart for something nearer to 2 (though MT itself is a bit older than that, the company didn’t really exist that whole time).
Though many people will disagree, I think I agree that LiveJournal fits a good niche for Six Apart. Fills a need that they don’t have. And what’s more is that LiveJournal isn’t exactly software. That is, it involves software – but it is more of a service (which is provided in part by software). But as a user, you more than likely won’t go download software. This is more akin to they TypeKey offering from 6A – though even that is a bit of a stretch.
Wow! That didn’t take long. I didn’t expect industry consolidation in blogging sofware to happen so quickly. I wonder who’s next, WordPress?
BTW, do you have comments set up to not remember users?
