In case you ever wondered why certain sections of the world are so slow on the move to new technology, look no further. The Charlotte Mecklenburg tax department has shown me the light, and all my questions are answered.
The other day we received a similar answer from someone who was requesting that we make a payment by phone (though their fee was slightly less, and we have no proof). I don’t get it. These people are saying that it would actually be less expensive for them to have someone get the mail, open it and process the payment into the system? Where’s the logic in that?
To pay (roughly) a $200 statement, the “convenience” fee is $11.00. That’s crazy. To make matters worse, it doesn’t seem to matter what the bill is – the charge is the same. I recently saw a bill from the electric company that was $11.72, and the convenience fee was $11.95. Say what?

Something I heard once was that because of their antiquated databases and networks, it was a huge task to accept online transfers.
I’m with you though on this. There is no reason that a company should be avoiding change that is proven safe, reliable, and will be here to stay. They also shouldn’t be charging “convenience” fees to customers. Hopefully, it’s just a matter of time.
