Don't Back Down

2008 Mustaches for Kids: Checkpoint 2 »

This checkpoint was delayed not by more broadband delays, (those have finally been fixed), but by the camera acting up. In fact, it still is, so the picture just doesn't look very good. I'll have to do some practicing with it to see if I can figure out what is happening. Now that the broadband is restored, I'll probably have to go out and get a new camera.

Anyway - since last week, you can see (picture below) that the mustache continues to come in. I did have to make a slight adjustment to the rules. Mustaches for Kids - the official organization, I mean - doesn't allow any additional facial hair, and you can't really tell from my less-than-focused picture, but I had to leave a bit of a soul patch this week, because of a small shaving mishap last week.

You see, I apparently nicked something (and nicked it good), because it bled and bled. In fact, I was glad that we had a styptic pencil (I have to share it with the dogs, but at least I had one), because without it, I'd probably still be bleeding. As I've mentioned before, I don't typically shave often, and when I do, I don't usually shave the chin area, so I was - understandably - a bit gun-shy. That's the reason for the soul patch, even if you can't see it in the picture. Sorry for breaking the rules. I'll try and do better next week. I was just glad we had one - my dad used to have them, but they are really hard to find.

I also decided to try a new tactic in the war on whiskers. I've been a big fan of the wife's Intuition Razor. Unfortunately, it seems that it is getting clogged up when I let my whiskers grow out too long - I need to shave first, which is just a royal pain. So I can either break out the trimmer, to cut back to a manageable size, or I can try her Venus Vibrance instead. The Venus doesn't sooth as well as the Intuition, to be sure - but because it doesn't have that lotion around the head, you can clean it out well.

So what I did was used the Venus to trim down to the short hairs, then used the Intuition for a nice, close (and smooth!) shave. It worked well.

Why couldn't I use a regular razor? Because we don't have any - and I don't have any shaving cream, gel or anything else. So I have to make do with what I can find. It happens.
