2008 Mustaches for Kids: Checkpoint 1 »

I'm a little delayed in posting this, due to my continued broadband troubles. But better late than never, right?

In any case, the 2007 Mustaches for Kids event continues. After the kickoff last week, I now have a one-week growth of pure, corner-to-corner goodness. Or badness, I suppose - depending on whether or not you like mustaches. But regardless, it's here and it's growing. If you'd like to join in the fun, it's not too late - there are still three checkpoints to go. Well, there are two checkpoints and then the final Sweetest Stache Competition, which isn't so much a checkpoint as a race to the finale before Valentine's Day. But it's plenty of time to get growing is what I mean.

If you don't want to grow, but want to help out, check out the Donors Choose page and choose a cause (or more than one, even). You can do it now, or you can wait to see how big this thing gets before deciding what it's worth.

Yes, that's yours truly, sporting perhaps the third mustache of my life. It might even be the second. I remember the first, which is really just when I realized that I had whiskers, and didn't want to shave - but since it was all over, I probably had as much beard as I did mustache, and it isn't like you could see any of it anyway. The second was for all of a few hours when I just thought it would be fun to have a biker-style handlebar mustache. I even went out in public with it, but then I decided that I really didn't like it that much. So I shaved.

After that, I simply decided that I'd stick with either the George Michael look (mostly because it required little-to-no effort), or I would go for the goatee. I liked the goatee, because it was easy to achieve. I could shave the sides of my face in a minute or two, and leave the much more challenging chin section alone. Plus, I figured that it looked better, so I went with it. I would also from time to time shave the mustache and stay with the chin-only goatee or even a soul patch beneath the lower lip if I felt like doing something different, but I can't say that I ever really considered myself a mustache guy. I guess I am now.
