Butler Back on Track with Thrashing of Weddington »

While perhaps they haven't exactly had a bad season, the Butler Bulldogs were certainly not doing as well as everyone had hoped. Sure, they have had some impressive wins, but they had also lost to East Mecklenburg just two weeks ago, and last week they beat South Mecklenburg, but not by much. This week they seem to have found their groove again, handing Weddington a monstrous loss - 58-7.

It's almost sad to say, but is that a good score for Butler or not? Just last week, Independence also destroyed Weddington - but by a score of 76-27. Does that mean that Butler is ready to play Independence this Friday? Or does it mean anything? I think it probably doesn't mean anything, and we'll just have to wait and see. It looks to me like the Patriots are in the groove and the Bulldogs are hit-and-miss. But you never know.

Speaking of the Patriots, they had another solid week, beating East Mecklenburg 21-7. How about that East Mecklenburg - mired in the midst of the standings, they nearly knocked off Butler last week, and holding Independence to 21 points? Losing can never be a good thing, but when you have a score like that, against a team hat scored 76 the prior week, you have to feel decent. Unfortunately their offense just couldn't get going, and it seems like the defense of the Big I is what is really moving the team now - Butler needs to watch out there.

The final team in the Big Three, the West Charlotte Lions, cruised this week, with a rain-delayed game that wasn't played until last night (Monday). If I'm West Charlotte, I'm wanting more of these delayed games - they beat Butler on Monday night earlier this year, making them two-for-two. This was a bit less exciting, however, with the Lions winning 62-7 over Mallard Creek. A 30-point second quarter finished things off before there was much more worth playing.

In other news, Charlotte Latin won the city championship over arch-rival Country Day by a score of 20-13, and are sitting at 10-0 going into the NCISAA playoffs. Go Latin!
