Buying Clothes off the Internet? »
It's no secret that I don't have a problem buying things online. Just recently, I've purchased a Cisco 1721, a Garmin GPSMap 60CSX, a Garmin eTrex Vista CX Navigator and an EVGA nForce 680i SLI 775 A1 Motherboard. In other words, I don't have a problem buying online, and I don't think that you should. But there are some things that I just don't get.
For instance, the other day, I was listening to Matt and Ramona, only to hear that Matt had ordered some swimming suits from a web site. I don't think he mentioned eBay - but he may have, and I just didn't hear it. Now that's just wacky. I don't know when I first ordered something online, but I'd pretty much guarantee you that it was a computer part of some kind, and I'd also be comfortable saying that I'm not sure if I would ever order clothes online.
Now I've heard for some time that you can find clothes on eBay, and in fact, searching on clothes turns up a number of categories - not just search results.
As I write this, there in fact are over twenty five thousand auctions running in the top clothes categories. Twenty five thousand! There are more than ten thousand for infants and toddlers alone. Now that category, I can almost understand - after all, young children go through clothes like crazy. Our kids are only now getting to the point where they don't go through their clothes weekly, so it makes some sense to get clothes as cheaply as you can get them. But even so, I generally buy clothes at places like Wal-Mart. I'm not sure eBay is the best choice.
And after all, Matt is the kind of guy that probably wouldn't wear someone else's used clothes. So eBay is likely out as a possibility. He has a few hang-ups in that department. A jacket, maybe, but even that would probably be pushing it. But a swim suit? I don't think so. Too close to "his junk", as he puts it.
To make matters worse, clothes often need to be tried on. Even for guys. Now I realize that guys don't have the size problems that women do. Believe me, I understand. I've tried to buy clothes for women, and that is something I don't even want to begin to attempt in a brick-and-mortar store, much less online. But my sizes are nebulous enough in a regular men's department - why would I want to risk getting something online and having to try to go through the process of returning it? That makes no sense at all to me.
Certain items I can see buying online. Clothes just aren't one of those items.
