Oasis Place Family Restaurant Review »

For years, the Knife and Fork occupied this small building near the corner of Sharon Amity and Independence. Then an upscale bistro came in, but it was still named the Knife and Fork. Who wants to eat at a place called the Knife and Fork, but the prices are higher? That makes no sense.

A short while ago, another family reopened the restaurant under the name Oasis Place, and I really didn't know what to think. It seemed to have some sort of island feel, I suppose, but had no real reason to go by, but it was close, so figured we'd drop in for a mid-day Sunday meal.

It turned out that they have used most of the re-done interior, which probably saved them a bundle. The menu, which you can find on their web site (it doesn't match exactly, but it's close), it a bit eclectic. Breakfast offerings are fairly standard, and lunch and dinner have something of a Southern flair to them.

Then there are some Mexican offerings as well - presumably because they have Mexican cooks on staff. They even offer Jarritos drinks, which are typically a bit unusual outside of authentic Mexican restaurants.

Outside of the odd selection on the menu, the prices are good and the food plentiful. It's pretty decent, as well.

The only real downside is the service.

We came in with perhaps one other table occupied, and there were (at least) two servers on staff. Since we didn't know which of the menu items we wanted, we asked for a minute to make up our minds. Some five minutes later, we still hadn't been checked on, so we tried to get the attention of our server, who seemed surprised that we needed her again.

The food was served quickly, but she never checked back to see if everything was okay (it was, but usually they will check in, just to be sure). So if you don't like being bothered, and if everything is up-to-par, you should be fine. Otherwise there might be a bit of an issue.
