Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant Review (Sevierville, TN 37862) »

They always say that the third time is the charm, right? So after what was probably the worst meal experience in recent memory at the Old Mill, and an utterly average experience at Duff's, I was hoping beyond all hope that the third time was indeed the charm here at Applewood.

Alas, it started off by waiting in line. I so hate waiting in line. It wasn't a good start. What really baffled me was that, unlike at the Old Mill, there was no apparent way to determine when the name of your party was called. Though we sat outside on the porch (which was a nice porch) for at least half an hour, I don't think I heard a single name called during the whole time. It was just odd.

One of our party happened to be inside when our name came up. Otherwise we may still be waiting. I just don't understand.

What makes this restaurant different from the Old Mill is that the staff is incredibly nice. Well, that and the fact that once you sit down you actually get served rather quickly. Apple Julep and Fritters all around, within minutes (seconds, perhaps) of being seated. It was actually quite nice.

I have to say that I don't really care for either the julep or the fritters, as neither is really terribly special, but it was still nice to get good service, and our waitress was very personable. That was a pleasant enough change.

As to the food: It was okay. I'm sure most are impressed by the service, as we were, but the food just wasn't very good. I had fish of some sort or another. Mountain trout maybe. My wife had chicken in apple cider or something, and it was too sweet. Other dishes were just average. The mashed potatoes were good, but let's face it - do you really want to go somewhere for good potatoes?
