New Pizza Town II Review »
I actually arrived across the street at the Affinia Manhattan a bit earlier than expected (odd, because of the weather), but still, it is Manhattan, so what better to do than stop in for a bite at a neighborhood pizza joint?
What better indeed. Ideally, it would be good pizza, and NPTII satisfies in one regard - they have a solid selection of pies. I can't say that they are better or worse than the original, as I've never been there. But there are a good selection, ready for your choice. That, in fact, may be the downfall. Your best bet might be sticking with something simple, as the choice could be too overwhelming.
Nonetheless, there are a good number of fancy pies to choose from as well, and most of them are decent. Among those that I recall are something that seemed to be a lasagne pizza (which was good) and some sort of chicken parmigiana (which could have been so much better).
The main problem that I had with all of the "gourmet" slices was that they were really thick, and made for too much in and of themselves. I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to pizza, and prefer the ultra-thin crust that you're likely to find at somewhere like Lombardi's. That's just how I roll.
In any case, if you're looking for a decent bite, and don't have long to wait, then you'll probably be happy here. But there are better places to get pizza in the city, that's for sure. You probably won't be completely disappointed, however.
