Don't Back Down

Andy's Cheesesteaks and Cheeseburgers (Mount Olive, NC 28365) »

These days I'm just as likely to look in a strip mall for someplace to eat as anyplace else. It seems that I'm about as likely to find a good place to sit down and find something decent to eat as if I stop somewhere that's not in a strip mall. While in Mt. Olive for the New Years Pickle Drop, we decided to do just that when we came upon Andy's.

While we barely made it in the doors, since they were closing early on New Years Eve (not sure if this was a decision for the holiday, for the Pickle Drop, or a combination both), we did make it in. We were greeted with a huge dining room, and one that was almost completely empty. I would imagine that this is because we were in a smallish town, where just about everyone else was headed elsewhere in about an hour. Perhaps on another night it would have had more people.

This night, there were only two other tables that had people. Still, the service was friendly, and we ordered up a root beer float and a cheesesteak sandwich. One word of warning on this sandwich: They come in two sizes - regular and "Andy Size". If you're like about anyone else, you probably think of 6" and 12". Not the case here. We ordered a regular, thinking we'd get a standard sandwich - that's what the picture seemed to indicate. It was tiny.

It turned out okay, since we weren't very hungry. But it was probably overpriced. Good taste, big price. I think we would have been happier with an Andy Size. Then again, I don't know how big an Andy Size sandwich is, so I can't say that with any amount of certainty. The float was very tasty.

Hello Mr. Everett: I saw your entry on 12/31/06 about your visit to Andy's. Thanks for the review. FYI, as you suggested, our cheesesteaks will go to 6 and 12 inch sizes on 1/15/2007. We have been working on that for a while now. BTW, the burgers are getting bigger, as well. Find details at www.andyscheesesteaks.com after 1/15. We hope you'll stop back in. Thanks again,

just decided to pull up andy's website today because of my experience last night. let me say that i've never gotten a better hamburger anywhere than at andy's. my wife and i as usually go somewhere after church to get a bite to eat. last night at about 8:15 pm we stopped at the location on wayne mem. drive. which we have done many times before. last night we went in and got the usual welcome. we sat down at a table beside some church friends. in about 10 minutes their food was brought to them. no one had come to our table yet. the waittress gave them there food, never look at us and left. my wife went to the ladies room and came back, still no service. we then waited about 5-10 more minutes(no one). so we left because i was hungry. as we left the restuarant the cook look at us and said have a nice evening and we did by going somewhere else and getting food. now this will not stop me from going to andy's. they still have the best burgers anywhere. just thought i would let it be known.
