Old Country Buffet Review »
After a late night of work, we found ourselves looking for something a bit different along the highway and there weren't a lot of options - especially because we had already had Italian twice in the last 24 hours and we didn't want fast food. There were a couple of places that are typically considered "family style", but we can typically get those at home, so we looked for something different.
While we drove about as far down the highway as we could (at least, until getting to the point where there wasn't much more in the way of parking lots), we were getting ready to head back when we saw a mall that sported a sign for the Old Country Buffet. While technically a chain, we don't have one at home, so we decided to give it a try. A bit of luck at the register meant we scored the senior discount, and because they were busy, the cashier told us to go ahead anyway because she didn't want to go back and fix it.
That was good because it probably wasn't worth the effort. While it's a buffet, the selection isn't huge. They have a guy who cuts steak and there is a variety of items, but most of it is what you'd consider country - macaroni, mashed potatoes, definitely not the healthiest of fare (but then, I'm not always the healthiest of eaters, either).
The big problem isn't the selection, it's that it just isn't very good - and even with the senior discount, it isn't cheap, either. At least it was fast.
