Don't Back Down

Papa Pino's Review »

Nestled near Paramount's Carowinds, we figured we would stop in for a bite to eat. As we neared, we saw signs advertising that kids eat free, which is always a bonus. As we got in, we found out that actually two kids eat free with each adult entree. If, however, kids eat off the buffet, they get a discounted buffet with each adult buffet. Which is a little odd, but whatever.

Sunday, at least, has a brunch buffet, which includes not only pizza, but several types of pasta, multiple meats, mussels, a nice salad bar, and a pretty good selection of breakfast-type foods as well.

The food isn't bad, but is fairly mundane - nothing really stands out. The service started off okay, but it went downhill fast. Oftentimes glasses stood empty, food (for those who ordered entrees) arrived one at a time rather than altogether, and there was general disarray. The outside of the place looked like they opened recently, so it may be that they are having growing pains - but since we aren't often in the area, I'm not sure if we'll give it another chance. If we do, I'll update the rating accordingly.

Visited Papa Pinos for the first time, after my husband and son who work in Pineville area told me of this so called Italian Rest. The service was horrible, received drinks after one trip to food bar was already eaten. There were no meats on food bar, very little pizza or variety of. The pasta dishes lacked seasoning. Frozen meatballs are much better than theirs.I took the ladies from the office with me. We will NEVER go back.

I DECIDED TO TRY A PIE FROM PAPPA PINOS WHILE AT WORK SO I CHOSE DELIVERY. PRIOR TO ORDERING, I INFORMED THE GIRL ON THE PHONE THAT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME ORDERING AND THAT WE AT WORK ORDER MANY MANY PIZZAS FROM ONE OF THEIR COMPETITORS (CARMELLAS) WHICH IS CLOSE TO THEIR ESTABLISHMENT. I FURTHER STATED THAT IF THEIR PIE IS GOOD, THEY WILL RECEIVE MANY MANY MORE ORDERS AS I, BEING A TRUE LOVER OF PIZZA WILL GIVE THE REVIEW WHICH WILL DETERMINE IF OUR BUSINESS WILL PLACE FUTURE ORDERS. I WENT ON TO PLAYFULLY SAY THAT THE PIE I GET BETTER BE A GOOD ONE. I WAS ASSURED THAT IT WOULD BE. I ORDERED A LARGE PEP, SALAME, AND HOT SAUSAGE PIE WHICH WAS TO BE DELIVERED IN 30 MIN. BEING THAT WE ARE LOCATED 3 MILES FROM THE PIE JOINT. RESULT............ PIE 12 MIN. LATE. TEMP LUKE WARM. CONSISTANCY OF CRUST COMPARABLE TO SMASHED WHITE BREAD. SAUCE DID NOT RESEMBLE OR EVEN MERELY HINT OF TOMATO WITH ZERO SPICES ADDED. PEPPERONI UNDER DONE AND FAR TOO SPARCE. HOT ITALIAN SAUSAGE MISSING HOWEVER THERE WAS SOME SORT OF WAXY PORK RIND SORT OF THING IN IT'S PLACE. SALAMI, I THINK THERE MAY HAVE BEEN 6 PIECES OF MINISCULE SOMETHING OR OTHER STUFF REPRESENTING THE COLD CUT. OVERALL RATING 40 POINTS OUT OF 100. 35 OF THEM AUTOMATICALLY GIVEN BECAUSE IT WAS DELIVERED, 5 EXTRA BECAUSE I WAS STARVING. A SALTINE CRACKER WITH KETCHUP AND SLICED VIENNA SAUSAGE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER. ABSOLUTELY EMBARRASSING THAT THEY SLING THIS FODDER AROUND WITH SUCH COMPETITION IN THE AREA. PRICE PAID INCLUDING $5 TIP TO LATE DELIVERY GUY... $35.23.
