You Want Carpet and Windows with That? »

Apparently the Charlotte Housing Authority has subsidized rent of an apartment that costs $750 per month at one location in Charlotte. Not too bad if you consider that this is for a three-bedroom unit. There are places in this world (in this country, even) where you'll pay that much for a closet.

When it really starts to get odd is when you consider that the very same unit may cost as much as $331 less if it's not being rented by the Housing Authority. If your first thought is anything like mine, you're likely thinking that this landlord is simply milking the government for some extra dough. Apparently you'd be wrong.

At least, you'd be wrong if you believe this person. If you read the article, you get to a paragraph that reads: "Co-owner Damen Cummings said he charged Section 8 recipients extra to recoup the cost of adding cabinets, carpeting, windows and other amenities required for them to pass inspections."

Oh, so he's just charging extra because he had to install cabinets, carpeting and windows. I guess those other folks, who pay less money each month don't get those amenities. Are you kidding me? This guy expects us to believe that they installed windows in these units, just so they could pass inspections? Oh, sure, he'll probably come back and say that those other units have windows, they just aren't nice windows. Why can't people come out and tell the truth? They were milking the government and got caught.
