Treasure Hunters Challenge: Week 7 »
The seventh challenge starts in front of a church in the Dutch town of Sleepy Hollow. According to Laird, the town predates the American Revolution by over 100 years, and it is here that the famous horseman waits with the next clue.
When I first went into the challenge, the icon was something like the clock for challenge 1 and it wasn't working right. Rather than restart (which I did several times), I returned to the gameboard, and the icon became a pumpkin. Everything also seems to be working.
If you have any problems, return to the gameboard, make sure you have the pumpkin icon (appropriate considering the location), and try again. You don't have to use Internet Explorer. I did it with Firefox and it worked fine. To the challenge.
Unfortunately, the church door is locked, so you'll have to go someplace else first, it seems, and the only place that appears to be an option is the graveyard. Not appealing when you're in a place called Sleepy Hollow at night, but what choice do you really have when it comes right down to it? You do want to finish the challenge, right? That's what I thought. Let's get to it.
- Click to the right of the church to enter the graveyard.
- Click on the short rounded tombstone to the right of the gate (the light-colored one).
- Click on the base of the tombstone to pick up the key and click on the key to store it in your backpack.
- Click Go Back to return to the graveyard.
- Click Go Back to return to the front of the church.
- Click the backpack to open it.
- Click the key to select it.
- Click the key to open the door.
- Click the door to enter the church.
- Click the matches on the railing to pick them up and click them again to store them in your backpack.
- Click the candelabra to bring it into focus. Now you need to light all the candles.
- The trick is that if you light one candle, some others may light and still others may go out.

To light all of the candles, you only need to click four of them:

You'll want to click those marked with "x" in the image above and don't click those marked with "o" (they aren't actually marked like this in the game). After those four clicks, all your candles will be lit and you'll hear a creaky door open. Thanks, Jaclyn, for being the first to crack the code (or at least, the first to share it here)! - Click Leave Church to go back outside.
- Click to the right of the church to enter the graveyard.
- Click on the now-open entrance to the cave.
- Go to the right one screen and you'll see a globe.
- Move to the globe to bring it into focus. If you had to restart for any reason, and you've already retrieved your second insurance policy, you can skip this step - you already have it.
- Go to 37°N by 77°W. Where did these come from? The rulebook on the table in the game room. You did read the rules, didn't you?
- To get there, click the globe and move it. You're looking for Virginia.
- When you get there, click to retrieve the second insurance policy.
- Click it again to store it in your backpack.
- Click Go Back to return to the catacombs.
- Now go down to the next level and to the left one screen.
- Then go down another level and back to the right two screens.
- Now go up two levels and to the right one screen. Thanks for the clarification, Jeff!
- Next, go down three levels to the lever.
- Click the lever to move it once (from left to right). Click towards the top of the lever to move it, because if you click it too low you'll pick up the chain. Also, if you move it back to the left, you just undid what you need to do, so move it back again. Let me say it again: Make sure the lever is on the right when you leave! And if you did click the chain first, you'll have to restart. It may also be possible to select it from your pack and put it back on the lever. I have had some success doing this.
- Once you've moved the lever, you can click the chain to select it and click it again to store it in your backpack.
- Click Go Back.
- Go up two levels and to the left one screen.
- Go up three levels and to the left one screen (you actually will go down one level here as well, unless you're really good at jumping).
- At this point there is a large hole. You'll need to jump and run to make it across. If you can't make it, try standing at the edge (facing left), hold the shift key, then press the space bar. It seems to work better for me than running and trying to press space at the right time.
- Then go to the left and down two levels and through the open gate.
- Click the book to pick it up and again to store it in your backpack. Note the coordinates.
- Click Go Back.
- Retrace your steps to get back to the globe.
- Go to 42°N by 80°W (from the book you just picked up).
- To get there, click the globe and move it. You're looking for Titusville, PA.
- Now you're in front of the Drake Well.
- Click your backpack to open it.
- Click the chain to select it and again to connect it to the truck. It doesn't seem to matter where you click the chain, but by all means, if it doesn't seem to work for you by clicking in one location, try clicking elsewhere.
- And if it still doesn't work, try restarting the challenge. If that doesn't work, try returning to the gameboard. If that doesn't work, try clearing your cache. If that doesn't work, try restarting your browser. If that doesn't work, try another browser. If that doesn't work, try another computer. If that doesn't work, try taking a break for a few minutes. One of these should. I promise. Lots of people have done it now.
- Once the barrels move out of the way you can see a door.
- Click the door to open it and click again to go through the door.
- Click the drawer in the table to open it.
- You're done!

I got everything done up until the chain, and I did get the chain before the book, but it won't let me use the chain on the truck...

After closing out and restarting completely, I was able to attach the chain to the truck. I guess just keep trying. It does get faster to go through after each time at least.

The second set of coordinates (42N, 80W) comes from the book in which you get from behind the gated room in Rockefeller's tomb. I have no idea where the insurance policy coordinates came from and am curious myself.
As for the stupid chain...can't get it to work either. I had to redo the whole thing to make sure the chain was visible in my backpack...but now I can't use it.
Lastly, as for the big jump...you need to push the left arrow key and shift to run left...then when you are close to the edge, you have to push the space bar to jump the gap (while still pushing the left arrow and shift keys).

Hey guys...for those of you who are having a trouble attaching the chain to the truck....just click on "return to Gameboard and do the whole thing again....cause after the fifth time I click on "return to gamneboard" and I did the whole thing again...and it finally worked!...I think something was wrong with this level...some one call freaking NBC and bitch them out...haha...peace out!

To cross the wide gap, hold down the shift key, start going forward (running), then jump at the last possible moment.

In order to jump over the gap you need a running start - hold the shift key and the direction key and then hit the space bar to jump the gap. On the other side you'll find Dark Well and the coordinates for the map. Make sure you have the chain in your backpack. Week 5 was still the hardest for me. The last two were so much easier!

Help! What am I doing wrong? I had the chain before in my backpack and couldn't get across the huge hole.
Whenever I restart the game or the browser, I already have the 2nd insurance policy and now cannot find the chain or the lever.

Found the lever - I think I actually had to go up four levels - then come back down.
But now I get to the gate and it's closed. Anyone figure this one out?

Thank you for Week 7 info, however, when I try to get to the globe, I fall thru to the bottom level and the globe goes away. I've restarted about 5 times and no matter how slowly I move toward the globe, I fall thru the opening. Any suggestions?

When you fall, move to the right of the opening and jump back up on the right side. Or before you fall through, try jumping across.

Staci, in order to get the book you need to find the key, do the stuff in the church, go down in the cellar thingy, move the lever from left to right, take the chain off the lever, jump across the big gap, go into the door and the book will be on the ground.

I am in the cave and facing the huge hole and I held the shift key and hit the space bar but my guy skips two screens and I cannot seem to get across that hole? Any suggestions? Also, when I found the globe I place it on 37N 77W and nothing happens? Thank you for your help.

Thanks Aaron, I did all that, got the key, matches, lit the candles, pulled the lever, got the chain, jumped over the thing and no book for me...I used the policy :(
Couldn't take it anymore and it was giving me a headache.

You can lock the shift. the Run command is the arrow left , then just when you get to the edge (he runs fast so keep your eyes on the screen) hit the SPACE bar and you will reach the other side. Might take a few but is doable. Good luck.

I have a pumpkin on my opening screen for the week to play...I have followed all the directions after picking up the chain. I have done it over and over again, but when I get to the part in the directions which says, "Go up two levels and to the left one screen, go up three levels and to the left one screen (you actually will go down one level (WHICH I DO EVERY TIME) here as well, unless youre a really good at jumping...AT this point there is a large hole...This is where I lose it everytime...When I jump I go down one level and I NEVER see any large hole....What is wrong? What do I need to do so I see the hole???? Please advise...

HELP! I have done everything repeatedly after getting the chain and after jumping the large hole and dropping to the next level, I NEVER find a GATE. I have tried to jump the big gap and NOT drop to the next level, but it doesn't work for me. In fact, I never get out of the maze unless I go back into the graveyard. Does the jumping the big hole and not dropping to the next level make the difference? Am I NOT suppose to drop a level? Tell me what to do please....

I went into the graveyard and clicked on the gravesite of andrew carnegie and nothing happens... Is that where the key is supposed to be located?

Craig, the "open" cave is the entrance, which is really the exit that you'll need to use once you have the coordinates (and the chain, and the second insurance policy, if you want it). And you don't need to move the boxes. Use the exit. I guess you didn't read the steps above, huh? :)

Chad, you are correct that I did not read the steps. I had solved the puzzle on my own before coming here to see if there was anything I had missed. Looks like I needed to pick up the second insurance policy.

Just click on the wick of the 3rd candle on the top row, the first candle on the 2nd row, the 4th on the 3rd row and the 2nd on the last row.

After 2 days of trying I am unable to run/jump into the big hole. I have an insurance policy and want to bail out but when I click on the policy to use it, it says "You can redeem this policy during select puzzles. Watch for the Genworth logo in the space below." Can someone help me?

Jaki - Rather than running and jumping, try walking to the edge and jumping. I've found it's a bit easier than running to the edge and trying to jump at just the right moment.
But in the end, you'll just have to do it. Sorry, there are plenty of tips here to help you with it, but in the end, it just comes down to doing it. The only trick is the timing.

UGH! I have been trying every single day since last Monday to get into this challenge, and no matter how many times I restart my computer, exit out of my browser, etc., I click on the pumpkin and NOTHING happens! It says loading for about 2 seconds, then "Done" but there is nothing there. Can anyone help? Is anyone else having this problem? HELP!

If you pick the chain up first, put it back and hit go back. Then proceed toward the lever again and move the lever to the right then pick up the chain. No need to restart.

I see a lot of people are trying to get thru crossing the big gap...I have the same problem too. What do I do if I tried to cross the gap, didnt' make it and fall back down? How do I get to the top again to attempt the jump one more time? HELP PLEASE!
