Holiday Inn Folly Beach Review »

While you can rent all sorts of houses at Folly Beach, there are only two hotels there, and oddly enough, both are called Holiday Inn (the other is spelled slightly differently, is about fifty years old, and isn't on the beach). This one, as rumor has it, is set to go at least partially towards the trend of condos, but for now, it provides rooms that are right on the beach, and it has a pool as well as a dining room and it's right in the middle of the beach, which is nice.

Make sure that you request a room that is lower than the fifth floor or so if you're staying in the summer. While the air conditioning units work well, during the middle of the South Carolina summer, it's just too hot. Last year, we had a room on the ninth floor (the top one), and it would simply not cool down enough to sleep. After the first night, we complained enough that they moved us to the second floor and that was fine. This year we requested in advance to be below the fifth floor, we were on the fourth, and that was fine.

The other problem is that their rooms have two beds, but the beds are doubles. So if you're taking a family of four, and you plan to sleep with your spouse, make sure you're used to smaller beds. This isn't always a bad thing, just make sure you know that it's coming.
