Park Slope Chip Shop Review (Brooklyn, NY 11215) »

In case you've been hiding under a rock the last few years, you've probably never heard of the Chip Shop. Okay, even if you haven't been hiding, you probably haven't heard of the Chip Shop. But you should have. You see, rumor has it that the Chip Shop is the inventor of the Fried Twinkie. But I'm not talking about the twinkie you get on a stick at the county fair.

No, this beast is much finer, sliced on a plate and covered in a nice berry sauce and powdered sugar, served on a plate with silver and everything. And in reality, it's quite tasty because it's been battered in a different sort of batter - the kind you're only likely to find in an authentic Chip Shop, one that fries up fish and the like, not just the sort of artery-clogging fare you'll find at the midway. And that's when you need to visit the Chip Shop.

You see, they actually fry up just about anything you send their way. They also are very good at frying candy (especially Reese's Peanut Butter Cups - yum), they offer up fried macaroni and their soon-to-be-unleashed creation, fried pizza. In fact, on their web site you can even submit ideas for what they should fry up next. And the staff is quite friendly as well, even if you only come to eat the fried desserts.

Sure, you have to take a longish ride to Brooklyn to get there. But it's worth it.
