Don't Back Down

Taqueria Linares Review »

We visited the Taqueria Linares, ready for some real Mexican food. This was our first trip, but had been to a few other "authentic" Mexican places in the area, including the now-defunct Taqueria Las Delicias that was essentially across the street.

Upon entering, we thought we had hit the jackpot, with a mostly Hispanic clientele (usually a good sign) and a well-kept restaurant, and pretty attentive service. It turns out that the service went downhill from there pretty rapidly. We did get our drinks (water, served with lime, not my favorite) rather quickly, but since we weren't quite ready to order, we asked for a minute to look over the menu. That wasn't the best choice.

After waiting a few minutes, we had to flag down the server and after some broken Spanish we managed to order. While I'm not completely illiterate when it comes to Spanish, it comes pretty close. Still, I can manage words like "quesadilla", "pollo" and "uno" pretty well. So when I end up with "dos" "carne" (quesadilla, at least), I'm puzzled. Denise had the carnitas, which she could order off the menu by pointing.

At least the food was tasty. But I don't know if we'll go back.
