Don't Back Down

Yawning over the Google Calendar »

So the Google Calendar is finally live. Did anyone notice? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's lovely and all. But in case you've forgotten, Yahoo! has had a calendar for a really long time. Sure, it's missing the Ajax and whatnot, but it's there.

I use the calendar in Outloook quite regularly, so I can understand the need of a good calendar application. But I'm thinking that the fact that I can't really sync the two makes the Google calendar somewhat useless to me. I'm not going to enter the data there any more than I did into the Yahoo! app. Heck, at one time, I did sync the Yahoo! Calendar, and I got tired of doing so so I stopped.

If the two would sync automatically, then perhaps I would make use of both. But if not? I doubt it. While I continue to like Google's products, and suspect that they will continue to improve upon them, I don't think that they are quite worthy of all the praise in this case. It's just another web app.

I use my Palm calendar. It's always with me and that makes all the difference.

I find that I couldn't even sync to a Palm device. I barely use the calendar in Outlook. That is, I use it, but I barely use it.

I record things in it, but I have reminders galore. At this writing, I have 20 reminders. The oldest is 16 weeks overdue and the newest is just 1 day overdue. So perhaps I'm just not a calendar kind of guy.

As a casual user of Yahoo & Trumba I see google just adding a little bit more and leaving some vitals.

The sync feature is essential as this is what increases mobility and I think boys at zyb have been better off till now. Fresh and free as thety are the sync to mobile (both appointments and phonebook) is a good add on.
Others are bound to follow soon and google promises sync function soon. I hope it wont be limited to US users, which is the case most of the times.

Hi,
if you want, you can sync BOTH ways between Google Calendar and Outlook by using the RemoteCalendars plugin. Here are the instructions. ;)

Yes indeed, that looks pretty cool. I don't have the .net stuff installed, so I can't check it out right now, but I'll try and do so when I get the chance. Thanks for the links!
