King Buffet Review »

The King Buffet opened towards the end of 2005 in a building that has seen its share of restaurants. It is currently on at least its fourth go-round in at least 6 years. Immediately preceding the current incarnation was a very short-lived barbeque restaurant, that may not have even opened. I recall seeing the signs announcing that it would open, but never actually seeing it open for business.

Just before that it was an Italian buffet, and that was there for a little while, but I can't say that was there much longer. I never got to visit that one either. For a good while before that the building sat empty, and prior to that it was occupied by a Ryan's Steakhouse. But now, the King Buffet is a Chinese Buffet, though they advertise several cuisines on the sign outside.

In reality, you'll see two buffet lines of average size that are devoted to standard Chinese fare: Rice (both steamed and fried), lo mein, a variety of chicken and beef dishes, that sort of thing. One contains appetizer-like dishes, such as dumplings and won tons. Several dishes are, so far as I know, somewhat unique, such as their black pepper chicken and mushroom chicken (I enjoy both).

One of the buffet lines is what I would dub a 'salad line', and contains sushi, salad fixings and sauces, and another contains desserts. The final line contains a variety of items, including pizza, fish, macaroni and cheese, and other typically non-Chinese dishes.

The selection isn't huge by any means, but the food is good and it is kept fresh by an attentive group. They keep your beverage glasses full too, often a problem at a buffet of any sort. Also make sure you ask for your VIP card, where you can get a 'stamp' for each purchased buffet, and after your ninth trip you get one for free.

Update May 19, 2006: It appears that the restaurant has closed.
