Downtown Dogs Review (Chicago, IL 60611) »
This is the type of place I like. A small, unobtrusive location that you're likely to miss unless you know just where you're going. A nice staff that seems to love what they do so much that they put everything they have into it. And a good price for what you get. In this case, the outlet is Downtown Dogs, a small eatery that you're likely to miss even if you know where you're going.
The menu is small but thorough. In our case, we split it up. Denise ordered a Chicago-style dog with everything - onions, pickle, relish, tomato (and perhaps some other things). I had a bite, and it wasn't bad, but since I don't really care for either pickles or tomatoes, I didn't take a very large bite. Instead, I tried the charred Maxwell Street-style polish sausage, and it was perfect, charred on the outside and juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of onions piled on top, all on a nice size roll.
Each of our dogs came with a bag of chips, and we each had a drink too. The total cost? Let's just say it was a refreshing change from what we had been paying for most of our other eating adventures in Chicago. Maybe we just saved the best for last. That must be it.
