Giordano's Review »
After we wandered much of the downtown area on Sunday, we needed a rest for something to eat, and stumbled across Giordano's World Famous Stuffed Pizza, just across from The Sears Tower.
One word of warning. Stuffed pizza takes a long time to cook, so make sure you have time to wait.
We did, but it still took a long time. This is mostly noticeable because the service isn't that good. It took about 30 minutes for our small pizza to be prepared, and in that time, my water glass (a really big glass, no less) was bone dry at least twice, and almost empty when the pizza was finally delivered. I don't mind waiting for good food when there is good service.
I do mind waiting in two instances: When the service is bad or when the food just isn't very good. Of course, never having been here before, I couldn't have known if the pizza was world famous because it was good or world famous because it was bad. So I gave them the benefit of the doubt. But the service was bad, so it wasn't looking good.
We had a zucchini appetizer, and as you may know, I like my zucchini. But their batter was thick. Caked on. The taste was okay, but you had to chew through it to get to the 'meat' of the zucchini, and when you did you burned your mouth because the batter had cooled but it kept the food hot on the inside or something. Very unpleasant.
Then we got to the pizza, and it wasn't bad. But for the wait, the bad service, and the appetizer? Totally not worth it. I'd have to go with them being world famous because it's overrated, rather than because it's particularly good. I'd much rather go back to Al's for an Italian Beef.
Update: There was one good thing. The server told us where we could find a shoe store (specifically a Payless store) that was open - just about four blocks away. It turns out that he was right on the money, and Denise found some shoes that wouldn't hurt her feet. So that was good. But while a nice touch, I still wouldn't go back just for that. She probably won't need shoes next time, and if she does, we know where the store is now.
