Don't Back Down

Changes are Afoot »

I made some small changes to the footer over the weekend. First, I dropped both the licensing link and the HTML and CSS validation links. Why? I don't know. Just figured they weren't of concern to too many people. In their place, I added my affiliate link to DNS Made Easy.

Do you need DNS Made Easy? Perhaps not. I use their managed DNS services, which provide fault-tolerant DNS services for my domains for very competitive prices, and as a business, the peace-of-mind is important to me. For personal or hobby sites, it's less of a concern. I also use their backup mail service, which provides my domains with three backup mail servers, in case mine should go offline for some reason.

These backup mail servers are actually listed as MX records in my domains, which means if my server goes offline, theirs are going to pick up the inbound mail traffic, and will continually check to see if my server comes back online, at which point they will deliver the mail in their queue (up to 14 days/1GB worth).

All of this happens without me lifting a finger. Well, I had to lift a finger to pay for the service, and I had to do a little work to get the configurations just right, but you know what I mean. Once it's there, the service just runs. And that's nice.
