Recovery Day 2 »
Today is shaping up to be a bit better than yesterday, but I'm still on the long road to recovery. The most challenging piece is perhaps that I had a seizure last night (more accurately, a few small ones back-to-back). Nothing quite equates to a few hours in the emergency room while you're trying to get some sleep.
In any case, I'm back on track now, at least for a bt, and have some updates. While progress is moving nicely towards being able to work as I normally would, I can actually get a pretty good deal done right now. The first thing that I had to do was resolve the keyboard and mouse issue.
My previous laptop had only a single USB port on it (it was rather old), so I had purchased a small USB hub to handle the connection of other devices - the wireless mouse always being connected, and other devices such as cameras and phones popping in from time to time, and the new keyboard (mentioned yesterday) needed to be connected to. Plugging them into the USB hub seemed to make sense.
Well, the problems I mentioned yesterday about missing keyboard clicks (specifically the "i" key) snowballed today, and not only was I missng the "i" key more and more, but I was missing any number of keys. More importantly, perhaps, is that I was gettng extra letters in there - they would just pop up. It's like the communication had completely died or something.
Not to mention that the mouse was havng trouble. Maybe t would not click, or not double-click, or perhaps I would be dragging something and it would just drop it. This happened more than once with both files and email, meaning had to hunt around for what I was trying to drag because it just dropped it randomly. The new batteries didn't help.
So this morning I decided to connect them directly, since the new laptop has 3 USB ports. What do you know? They've worked nearly flawlessly since. So it looks like that little USB hub is about ready to be put to pasture. Strangely enough, I'm still missing the "i" key with some regularity, but I'm pretty sure that is my fault in nearly every case. And spelling mistakes pop up agan and again, not just related to the lack of the "i" key either. Guess that is probably my fault too.

I hope the medical people have figured out why you're experiencing this and they have are able to resolve the problem. As one who as been in the ER twice this year, make sure you take your laptop with you, when you go to the ER. The ER can be a very boring place.
