Congrats on paying it off! WOW! Was this something you had a goal to do or something that you were able to do due to a large sum of money?
I remember when my grandfather paid off his mortgage ... big party. I can still remember him standing on the front porch and burning his mortgage papers. I was 8 at the time, so I didn't realize the importance of it. I do now. :-)
Uh, let's say that there was a plan that involved a reasonable sum of money. :)
The last few months (7 to be precise), we decided to dedicate a lot more than the typical mortgage payment towards the principal.
I'm glad that it wasn't much more than 7 months, as we had built up some reserves that are now almost gone.
Almost being important - had we just "written" one large check, they would have been gone, at least for a short while. This way, we at least had a cushion throughout the year, and have a bit of a balance now. Now we get to build it back up again!
