Reading PDF Files with GIMP »

I've been using the GIMP for a while now. Part of it is that I don't really want to spend a ton of money on something like Photoshop when I really don't need to do image manipulation that often. GIMP has worked wonderfully for me. But yesterday, I needed to read in a PDF file, make some changes, and save it back out (as an image, not a PDF). The problem? When I tried to open it, I received an error saying something like "Error starting ghostscript: Failed to execute child process (Invalid argument) ". What to do?

What a Difference a Digit Makes »

The local paper is reporting that USAirways has ordered 230 Airbus planes. Unless you read the article, where you will find that they have apparently ordered 20 planes. That's a bit of a discrepancy, don't you think?

Ancient Chinese Wisdom »

I had lunch today at King Buffet, a new restaurant on Albemarle Road near Harris Boulevard. The food isn't bad, and they have one heck of a selection. Not just Chinese, but pizza, home cooking (mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese) and even stuffed shells. Good enough that it's not worth driving across town to the China King Buffet. That's not to say I don't like the China King - only that they are close enough in quality that it's not worth the drive.
