522 Grill Review »

We ate dinner at the 522 Grill in (near?) Lancaster, SC on Saturday night. Stuffed into the back of a convenience store (complete with gas pumps!) we didn't really expect much. But it turns out we were wrong.

Denise had a flounder sandwich that was quite tasty, I had the cheese steak (onions, mushrooms, no peppers please) and we split an order of onion rings.

Now the onion rings aren't like those from Bessingers or anything, but they were rather good. Advertised as beer battered, the breading was nice and thick, and didn't come off in flakes as you were eating. The onions were excellent too, with just the right consistency.

Each sandwich also came with a side of hand-cut French fries, which were good but not outstanding. Spring for the onion rings instead.

Yes, but was it as good as a Philly cheese steak.

That depends on how you look at it.

It is indeed labeled a Philly Cheese Steak on the menu, meaning it is the same, so it must be as good.

It is not, however, the same as a Cheese Steak from Philly, and in that case I'd say it was pretty darn good, considering I didn't have to fly to Philly to get one. That adds a lot to the cost, and while good, I'm just not sure it's worth all that!
