Don't Back Down

Final Round with Suncom »

As I mentioned previously, it was looking like I was going to be able to get out of my plan with Suncom because they didn't offer my phone. What I didn't know is that it would be so easy.

Because of the necessity to switch to a work plan, I'm now happily using Alltel and my number was ported (by what was previously AT&T/Cingular/Suncom) in just a couple of hours.

Unbelievably, everything switched quickly and now seems to be working just fine. All in all, it was a very nice transition indeed, when it comes right down to it. The only real problem was in making sure that I wasn't charge a termination fee.

If you recall, the prior conversation (linked above) said that I wouldn't be charged one. I was. But since I was no longer a customer, it was a real nightmare trying to get the money back.

AT&T actually levied the fee, because in their eyes, they lost the customer, since I never made it to Suncom. But they transferred the records to Suncom, since that was a part of their merger settlement arrangement (or something). So I had to spend an incredible amount of time on hold with Suncom in order to actually get the money back (which I did, eventually - it just took a really long time to do). Did I mention that I hate Suncom?
