Incoming Vonage Lines Hosed »
Not long ago, I noticed that one of my inbound Vonage lines was down. Then the other. Then I noticed on their site that 704 and 601 area codes were having problems with inbound calls. Then they added 504. A few minutes later it became 16 area codes, which is where it stands now. It will be interesting to see how long it takes them to get things going again.
This is my first (extended) outage with Vonage. I've had some problems here and there, but they could almost always be explained by lots of traffic or a bad link or something. And interestingly, my outgoing calls work fine. Just can't receive any - dialers get an "all circuits are busy" message.
My work-provided Packet8 phone seems to be working okay (thought it has not been without its own network downtime, typically more than the Vonage phone).
Update: Apparently a fiber cut among local providers is causing the problem, and Vonage has handed the problem off to local carriers. They expect a fix "later today". I do like that they update their dashboard so frequently.
In a quick search of the area codes, it looks like the affected areas are the general Charlotte area (NC), several locations in Pennsylvania, a couple in Alabama, Kansas and Louisiana, and parts of Kentucky, Mississippi and Jacksonville (northern FL). Strange cross-section for a fiber cut. I would have suspected a more contiguous area - perhaps North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia or something along those lines.
