Happy Birthday Uncle Chub »

About 7 months ago, I lost a close relative, Glenn Shaw. I called him Uncle Chubby. Everyone I knew called him Uncle Chubby. Everyone in the family, anyway - I can't say that I really knew too many of his personal friends. It was tough. Uncle Chub taught me a lot about life. Today would have been his 68th birthday. I think. Regardless, I miss him. Happy Birthday, Uncle Chub - we love you!

A Morbid Sort of Day »

Continuing with the death theme, a couple of links - the first from the local paper, that talks about the rise of so-called green burials. These nature-friendly graveyards require bio-degradable caskets, made of plain wood or cardboard - and even allow no casket at all! No embalming allowed, either.

And assuming you don't live in the old west, where should one find such a casket? Why, the fine monks at Trappist Caskets, of course. Even if you're not shopping for a casket of any sort (and let's face it - who is, that happens across this site), check them out. Quite a nice job of woodworking. They even offer pre-need planning, which allows you to place your casket order now and have it delivered when you need it most.

Update: For those do-it-yourselfers out there: Build your own!
