Don't Back Down

Moron our Cookie »

In the words of someone who can write better than I:

A make-believe character's make-believe diet isn't the problem here.

Instead, it's parents who let their children forsake the sandbox for the Xbox. And a fast-food industry that markets toys and lard-laden tasties directly to kids. And schools that sacrifice students' waistlines in exchange for proceeds from soda machines.

Anyone who's ever watched Cookie Monster closely knows that he doesn't so much eat the cookies as pound them into crumbs and spew them across the set. Instead of changing his diet, maybe "Sesame Street" would be better off giving Cookie lessons in table manners.

Well said. As usual, better than I did. Why can't we just leave our hands off Cookie, and address some of the real issues? And if it's necessary, bring back Captain Vegetable - but don't change our Cookie!

Haven't you heard? Fat is not as bad as they thought it was. In fact, being somewhat fat leads to a longer life than being skinny. Just read the new CDC report.

Well, the CDC report only discusses actual life spans, not health issues (you can be alive and unhealthy due to weight-related illnesses), but it's not wildly surprising.

And, of course, the peak was on "overweight" folks, but not obese or very obese; those remain unhealthy *and* deadly.

That said ... I think I'll go eat a cookie and do some work in the yard.

This article, which talks about the CDC report, says that fatness only affects us above a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 35.

Perhaps you should have two pieces of pizza too.

That said, I feel compelled to get my own weight down, but wonder what the real truth is.

Rats. I forgot to give the link. Here is is. http://techcentralstation.com/042205D.html
