Don't Back Down

Streetcars in Charlotte »

I was reading the paper today when I ran across this gem, that talks about the return of streetcars to Charlotte. Specifically, the city has apparently recently talked to some people from San Francisco on the subject. I think it might be cool, especially along Central Avenue (primarily because I don't live far from Central Avenue).

I also think that the in-ground rail type of system makes perfect sense. I've been to a number of cities - among them Amsterdam and Toronto, both relatively well-regarded - that have the in-ground tracks and they seem to work fine. I bet Charlotte won't do it though. I suspect you'll see them want to build their fancy-shmancy light rail plan, with separate right-of-way that takes forever and all sort of money to build and never does what it is supposed to do. We'll just have to wait and see.

As long as there's no Houston drivers in town, you'll be fine.

The METRO Danger Train (or Wham Bam Thank You Tram) is our city's way of enforcing No Illegal Left Turns with Newton's Third Law.
