I've completed the update to MT-ModCheck so that standalone mode will integrate with the Movable Type 3.0D interface.
This is really the only change, so if you're still using a 2.6x version of Movable Type, there is no reason to upgrade.
If you are only using plugin mode, there is also no reason to upgrade. The only new feature is if you're using standalone mode, and you are using it with version 3.0D. The old template for standalone mode will likely still work, it just won't look very nice.
Also, if you're using version 3.0D, you'll see an entry for the plugin near the bottom of your main menu (under the blog listing). This is typically used for 'configuration', but there really isn't any configuration - it just loads the standalone interface and gives you an easy link to the documentation.
