The Matrix Trilogy »
Last night, I scored a night on the town and chose to visit the discount theater, which I hadn't seen for quite a while. For a measly $2, I finally caught The Matrix Revolutions. I have to say that I was disappointed in this "climax" to the trilogy. It just didn't work for me.
I can see a number of possible endings, as the movie doesn't really explicitly tell you what happened. On that front, it's not an entirely bad thing. Naturally, the visuals from the movie were amazing, and that's not bad either. But I can also see a huge number of plot holes. Mostly I've seen these mentioned elsewhere (months ago!) so I won't go into them in a lot of detail here.
In the end, I was disappointed in the emergence of a completely different war near the finale of The Matrix Series, a rather unexpected and bizarre alliance, the complete change of not just one but several major characters and how most interesting diversions were simply dropped from the storyline without being explained in more detail or even used to further the story.
While The Matrix was, quite simply, an amazing film, and The Matrix Reloaded was full of action and not much else, this film just dropped the ball. There were a few of the signature effects, and those were of course done well. The whole film was generally very stylish, as would be expected. I don't know whether it was done purposefully or if the story was so bad I noticed it this time around, but the soundtrack seemed more pervasive in this episode.
The roles of the characters - all of the characters - were completely one-dimensional (likely from the writing, as opposed to the acting) and the whole movie just gave the impression that it was laboring while trying to get to the finish line. Rather than complete a tale, it simply ran out the clock. What a shame.

I sympathize with your let-down feeling. I have to say from my experience that, a couple of months having passed since I saw the third movie, my views have changed entirely and I now think the movie was overall very good...that the pluses outweigh its minuses. Some movies do that to me and I only appreciate them many months later. See in a few months whether your views have mellowed. Maybe they won't, but you never know.

I might agree that the movie was pretty good. Where I felt it was really a let-down was in the climax of the trilogy. If the movie was all on its own, it would be a little bizarre and some things wouldn't be explained, but I wouldn't have the let-down feeling. :)

It is 9/9/2004 - I am a avid fan of the Matrix - spent many nights watching the first bit by bit over and over- revelling in the idea that the world is just a big computer simultion. After waiting nearly 3 years for the 2nd - Reloaded - which at the time I thought was a bit of a let down but merely due to hype it is a good movie none the less- excellent visuals and really it is a movie cut in 2 - The 2nd cut being Revolutions the third in the Trilogy- Expectations are always high for trilogys so as others have said- You need to take a step back away from the hype.
THE MATRIX IS AN ALL TIME IN MY BOOKS.

Matrix had deeper meanings than the normal audience comprehended. What we are fed by hollywood wasnt necessarily there in the Matrix. The unexpected climax (a let-down for many) was the greatest triumph for the Matrix-makers. I see it as a defiance from what was expected.
The story goes linearly for me. And I am happy for Reloaded as well. Many hated it for different reasons. What they fail to understand is that a story that would have satisfied thieir expectations would have ultimately resulted in a story hailed as being predictable.
Matrix was just too good - God if such a story might ever come again. Well done Wachowski's !!!
