Geek Weakly »
Only the rarest geek will take it upon themselves to really dive in and change the world to fit their perception. If you've watched Bob Vila, or any of dozens of similar shows, and had no idea why they thought just anyone could do that stuff, then this week is for you. This week, we give you the goods on how you can change your world.
The last two weeks, we've covered biodiesel - modifying your vehicle to run on used vegetable oil, such as that found at fast food restaurants. Plentiful, inexpensive (often free) and you get to smell like french fries. What more could you ask?
We've also covered modifying the Roomba robot vacuum. Now, the company has announced two new models. List price on these babies is less than $300, making them affordable for most anyone. Keep your eyes on the Roomba community to see what other geeks are doing with their vacuums. In the meantime, a recent addition to the list of fun and exciting things you can do with your vacuum is the RoombaCam! Don't miss out on these videos of someone else's home... at floor level.
Do your floors have you, uh, down? Then perhaps you'd prefer the RocketCam. Instead of strapping your camera to the vacuum, launch it instead. A different perspective on things might be just what you need. (Courtesy Slashdot)
What's that? You suffer from motion sickness? Then maybe you ought to stay in the computer room, like any good geek. To keep you occupied, you can get your own Linux distribution to run on the Linksys WRT54G. No more will you be restricted to using your router as just a router. (Also courtesy Slashdot)
If that doesn't keep you busy enough, then maybe you need to create your own case modification? Purchasing one of those see-through cases from eBay really isn't what you want to do, is it? Show some imagination. Maybe stuff that system into an old Atari 2600. (Courtesy BoingBoing)
Or maybe you just need some rest and relaxation. If this describes you, check out how you can create your own lava lamp. Then invite some friends over, plug it in, turn it on, and, well, watch the lava. Maybe this isn't the best suggestion after all.
Finally, don't forget International Talk Like a Pirate Day - next Friday!
