Geek Weakly »
After last week's transportation bonanza, I was planning on moving on to other topics this week. But we seem to love to move about, so we'll spend another week looking at how we get around.
Way back at the end of July, we had a bit about the amphibious RV. This week, we see that Jane's adds a piece about a new amphibious car. Will we see the demise of the classic boat in the near future? Are there many people out there who want the ability to drive their car to a lake, and then just keep going?
Adding on to last week's edition, we've found that using biodiesel to power your vehicle isn't just for use with an old school bus. The Veggie Van and the Veggie Car demonstrate the capability in a smaller package. Sound interesting to you? You may want to check out the TDIClub for more information. The VW TDI engine isn't strictly for biodiesel applications, but the subject is popular!
Apparently the stretch of the Weakly is growing by leaps and bounds. A recent article in the Charlotte Observer points out the latest survey results that show that the typical American family now has more cars in the driveway than licensed drivers in the household. I guess I ought to talk about something else next week.
For now, I'll just move on to flying. If you spend any time at all in the air on a commercial airline in the United States, you'll want to check out this next resource. The FAA has released a real-time airport status page. This link shows you the status of all major airports in the country, and you can drill down to individual regions for access to even more airports. Not only can you see the status of the airport, but it'll tell you why your flights are being delayed. Very cool stuff.
Until next week...
