What's that Name Again? »

Seems like the world is afire with discussion about the NameFinalVote page at the wiki for NAPE (Not Atom, Pie or Echo). Strangely, only 14 votes have been cast at this point. Not really overwhelming, is it?

The current leader is Feedcast, which to me connotates something between an app that pushes data to your desktop, that's several years old at best, and some fancy new method for dropping your fishing line the farthest from the boat.

I don't know what to think of the other ideas either. No matter how much I think I'll support whatever quasi-standard feeds I can (ESF or RSS 3.0, anyone?), it's tough to even consider that I'll publish a Barbwire feed. It would require one heck of an icon.

The same goes for Sygnal and Wyre. Here's my sygnal, yank my wyre... I dunno. Just doesn't sound right.

Based on the current batch, I'd throw my vote to Elbo, and I have, though I'm probably the least qualified person to do so and have contributed pretty much nothing to the cause. But hey, an open vote is an open vote. Close it if you don't want me there!

Update: Thanks to (presumably) Mark Pilgrim for adding the "none of the above" choice to the list. I've changed my vote. Now I'm thinking about pea. A pea is small. Similar to a bean in Java, perhaps. A buliding block, if you will. I'd suppose that, instead of Java, we'd be making split pea soup. Okay, that's a bit odd. Here's the real reason: the name is not going to be (P)ie, (E)cho or (A)tom. Sure, it's an acronym. But it's a word too. That, and I can't resist the temptation to ask if anyone would like to read my pea...
